Alumni Bulletin Spring25

CLASS NOTES | SPRING 2025 | 47 ’51AND EARLIER Wes Wardell, 302998-7020; and associate, Lee Martucci ’82, leemartucci12@ gmail.com, 602-370-5496 For fun, I like to wear some Lehigh items out in public. In early summer I was wearing my wrestling T-shirt (given to me by Greg Strobel). My daughter, Linda, and I went to the meat market, and the shirt attracted the attention of three customers as they were leaving. A couple stated that they graduated in 2002. I encouraged them to update their correspondents about what they have been up to since graduation. The third customer was a woman who said that her husband graduated in 1982, Lee’s class. It was great to meet other Lehigh alums. I enjoy reading articles about the academic awards received by various students. It is remarkable that these young people can excel in sports and the classroom. They far surpass me in both! I am sure that there are many other students who excel but do not get recognized. It is not whether we win a game or not, but to have done our best and keep trying to do better. While Lee is emailing classmates, I work the phone. In early September I talked with Dick Allen and wife Elise to wish him a happy birthday. After the two Florida hurricanes, I called Dick again. He told me that he and Elise weathered the storms and that damage at Shell Pointe, Fla., was minimal. Stella Gabuzda wrote thanking us for the information about Tom Gabuzda in the summer Bulletin. I talked to Harriet Reid, widow of A. William Reid, and Anna Catherine Haupt, widow of Edward C. Haupt. I also keep in touch with Janet Prosser, widow of my cousin, George Prosser Jr. ’53. Janet is a retired nurse who received her training from St. Luke’s Hospital. I also had a great conversation with Bill Helfrich ’58, who lives in Buffalo Bills territory. I have been a Bills fan since my high school days in the Buffalo area. Bill told me about the Lehigh-Lafayette telecast in Buffalo, N.Y. Bill reported that Class Notes Welcome to Class Notes, where you can find out what your fellow alums are up to. Thanks to our dedicated correspondents for the work they do to keep our extended Lehigh community together. Please send class notes to your class correspondent, or, if unsure of the class to which the news applies, send to alumni@lehigh.edu. Class Notes may be edited for clarity and brevity.  Women’s powder-puff football games between Lehigh and Lafayette students took place once yearly from 1971 (pictured above) through 1979, and also in 1981 and 1984.
