He made his career as a building and remodeling contractor. William K. Abbott ’53, Dunellen, N.J., Aug. 22, 2023. Abbott was a founding member of Delta Chi at Lehigh and member of the Marching 97. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked in sales and market development for International Nickel Company for 40 years. He attended 73 Lehigh-Lafayette games (only missing one while in the service). Arturo R. Dunn Jr. ’53, Miami, Fla., Oct. 15, 2023. Dunn was a member of Delta Upsilon. He worked as a general manager for Black & Decker in Venezuela. His child, Robert Dunn, is a member of the Class of 1985. Charles Hull ’53, New York City, N.Y., April 14, 2023. Hull was a member of Sigma Nu, the football team, and the Mustard & Cheese. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He co-founded TheaterWorks USA. Charles W. Kleppinger Jr. ’53, Easton, Md., Nov. 28, 2023. A member of Theta Xi, Kleppinger worked in banking and real estate appraising. Robert H. Sapp ’53, Carlsbad, Calif., Sept. 30, 2023. An Alpha Tau Omega member, Sapp was a member of the undergraduate class leadership. He served in the U.S. Army before joining Scott Paper Company. He retired 35 years later as division vice president commercial sales and the first president of the SsangyongScott Paper joint venture in South Korea. John C. Archibald ’54, Little Silver, N.J., Oct. 22, 2023. A Sigma Phi member, Archibald worked for Chase for 36 years, retiring as SVP group executive of commercial banking. His parent, Ralph Archibald ’07, and children, Michael Archibald ’79 and John Archibald ’81, are members of the Lehigh family. Brooke R. Hartman Jr. ’54, Macungie, Pa., Sept. 3, 2023. Hartman worked for PPL for 51 years, retiring as the manager for financial reporting. He volunteered with his class and in fundraising for the university. For his service, he won the Alumni Award in 2014. He was also a member of the Tower Society. His parent, Brooke Hartman ’30, and child, Jeffery Hartman ’81, are members of the Lehigh family. Waechter was the president of Student Senate, Sigma Chi, and an editor of the Epitome yearbook. A Pi Kappa Alpha member, Hitzel spent his entire career in aviation. He started with Boeing, then worked as a flight instructor for the U.S. Air Force.
