62 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES parental interference. I had a chance to connect with Mike Kosko, who I ran into at a Lehigh game. Mike lives in Bethlehem, with his wife, Terry, of almost 34 years and their two children, Alexandra and Luke. Mike retired two years ago from Baxter Healthcare after 32 years of sales and sales leadership. In his last role, he was an area vice president of sales, leading the east area sales team. While at Baxter, Mike employed many Lehigh athletes who are still with the company, including Gatlin Casey ’18, Joe Siegenthaler ’18, Tom Zuewsky ’19 and Mike Gregorek ’04. Even though Mike retired, he continues to work directly with the Lehigh Athletic Partnership to mentor and develop the current football players while giving them advice and guidance on careers, particularly those interested in medical sales. Mike stated, “It is very gratifying to be able to give back to the university that prepared me for the career that I have retired from.” Along with mentor programs, Mike works closely with Harrison Lawrence ’14 and Nate Hughes of the Athletic Partnership to coordinate football alumni to come back to games and meet at the Rust Pavilion for tailgates and camaraderie in support of Coach Cahill’s efforts to bring winning football back to Lehigh. This year, they had a great contingent attending one of the games at Lehigh, including Bill Bolton, Perry Smith, Eric Horowitz, Rob Fithian,Jack Stengel, Doug Petrone, Todd Briggs ’86, Greg Heard ’86, Parker Carroll ’86, Brian Briggs ’89, Mike Beattie ’88, Brian Jalazo ’88, Greg Wilson ’89, Ernie Davis ’89 and Mike O’Hagan ’89. Lehigh-Lafayette brought a lot of alums back to South Mountain. There were so many tailgates to go to and not enough time. There was an ‘80s tailgate hosted by lots of ’88s, including Jamie (Sorcher) Pitzer ’88, Sharon Siegel Voelzke ’88, Janet (Pickens) Cole ’89 and others. The AOPis were also in the house with a tailgate hosted by Karen (Thompson) Plenn. I did not get a chance to see Pete Antico and Karl Pupke, but Jill Tirnauer was able to say hi to them for me. Joe Yammarino ’85 and the Alpha Sigs had their usual spot near the “circle,” although there was a screw-up and last-minute scramble for a parking pass. DJ Jefferis drove up with his new pup, who was sporting a Lehigh bandana, from South Carolina, and Jeff DeKorte and Rick Herwig were in attendance. I know the Sammies, including Gregg Balberra, were there beginning Thursday night for the Grateful Dead tribute concert, and they also had a tailgate. Sadly, I missed them. Please fill me in with whatever is happening in your lives! Have a great summer! ’88 GUEST COLUMNIST: Jamie (Sorcher) Pitzer, jpizley@gmail.com Always a signature event that’s sure to bring back plenty of alumni, the 159th Lehigh-Lafayette game was no exception. While it was a disappointing loss for the football team, it was a huge win for the Classes of 1988/1989 and friends’ tailgate that felt more like a throwback to a Saturday night on the Hill circa 1986. Hosted by Sharon Siegel Voelzke, Julia Voelzke ’21, Janet (Pickens) Cole, Bob Cole, Sarah Cole ’17 ’18G, Bobby Cole ’19 ’20G, Jamie (Sorcher) Pitzer, Kerry (Loughman) O’Hearen, Jocelyn (Gitlin) Deutsch ’89, Marlee Deutsch ’21 and Tamara Mohuchy-Collins ’89, it was an incredible afternoon of who’s who, with more folks stopping by than we can possibly name here! Part of the fun was seeing so many folks back who have kids now attending Lehigh. Laura (D’Orsi) Bauman ’87 (with husband Dave Bauman) was hanging out for a bit with fellow DGs, including Clare (Crabtree) DeNicola ’85, pledge master for the Incredible Crew of 22, aka Jill Tirnauer ’87 and Andi (Worth) Robik ’87, before heading into the game to see her daughter Alexandra Bauman ’27, who is a Mountain Hawks cheerleader! Also attending were Amy (Kantrowitz) Frei, Kellie (Fisher) Marino, Jim Stone, Katie (Edwards) Cassidy and John Cassidy, Carla (Juliani) Falco, Mary (Brush) Senior and Jeff Senior with daughter Kelly, Mike Beattie and Laurel (Casten) Beattie, Craig Stansbury,Dave DiBrigida, Dave Jacey, Sean Kelly, Rick Potts, Tracey (Danforth) Winebrake and Pete Winebrake. Marianna Gonzalez-Gilbert couldn’t make it at the last minute, but her son Will Gilbert ’20 did. ATOs made a stellar showing! Sean Pitzer, Jeff Bosland, Jim Harris, Steve Banco, Barry Smith and Mike Rinaldi were joined by many more, including Marty Horn ’86, Rennie Benn ’86, Wes Schantz ’86, Chris Hite ’89, Rob Lubin ’89, Van Shell ’91, with wife Julie (Nestler) Shell ’93 and daughter Jackie. If you felt a Sigs late night vibe, it would be understandable. Gene Souther ’89, Bill Tillinghast ’87, Joel Braverman ’89, Paul Feidelson ’89 and Dirk Friedkin made appearances as well. Feeling nostalgic now? Don’t worry—we’re doing it all again next year and hope to see you then, if not sooner! ’89 Jocelyn (Gitlin) Deutsch, 9 Vincent Lane, Armonk, NY 10504; jocelyndeutsch@hotmail.com ’90 Michael Lewis, mpl1968@yahoo. com and Dave Tratner, dctsports@gmail.com Ah yes, the signs of spring are in the air—kind of like they were during RCS of our freshman year in the Lower Cents Quad, the Richards/ Drinker/Dravo triad, Taylor College or the so-called “Potato Pi Fraternity” inside M&M. Whether you liked their taste in music or not, someone had one of their three-foot-high, Hi-Fi subwoofer speakers blasting the “Animal House” soundtrack—AC/DC, Warren Zevon, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin or pick your artist. But enough wistfulness about the past. Thanks to all who wrote in. And, to those who didn’t, get on it! Paul Schauder and wife Darcy Mayers are thriving in Marblehead, Mass. Paul is the VP, Brand & Creative at a fintech start-up called NDVR, Inc. He and Darcy have been married for 29 years (awesome!) and have three children: Bridget, who works in marketing; Rory (a Lafayette grad); and Kipp (a current Sigma Chi at Union College). Paul is a Pi Lam, the fraternity being reconstituted next year. Of Rory attending Lafayette, Paul says, “I love that we’ll have a lifelong rivalry, and we can go to Lehigh-Lafayette each year. She was captain of their women’s soccer team, so I root for their soccer team, but everything else is Brown and White!” Cailín Cordon-Waldman has stayed local, serving as the director of health professions advising at Muhlenberg College for nearly 25 years. She has two daughters: Tara, an attorney in Tampa, Fla., and Erin, a pre-K teacher in the Lehigh Valley. Cailín married Jason Waldman on New
