Alumni Bulletin Spring 24

CLASS NOTES | SPRING 2024 | 45 ’51 Wes Wardell, 302-998-7020; and associate, Lee Martucci ’82, leemartucci12@gmail. com, 480-388-1849 GO LEHIGH! My name as a new class correspondent appears above. Before I tell you about myself, I wish to thank Dick Allen for being class correspondent for seven years. He did a terrific job and, but for some health issues, would have continued. I am sure you all remember his interesting columns. It is impressive that many Lehigh alumni read not only their own column, but other columns. I also like to see what other alumni are doing. Another multi-class reader is Lee Martucci ’82, a former wrestler. Lee didn’t want to see the ’51 column go the way of the dinosaurs, so he volunteered to write the column. In the meantime, I was talking with Dick and offered my services—and thus, our partnership. Be on the lookout, as Lee plans to email you, so that we can keep up on your status and happenings. Please respond, as this is not a scam. Dick and I go way back, further even than Darien Cruz ’18 and Ethan Lizak (NCAA 2017 Championship bout commentary). Check out the bout on YouTube. Dick’s father and mine were both high school classmates in East Orange, N.J., and Lehigh Class of 1925. After being a classmate of Dick’s in elementary school, my family moved in 1939, and we ended up in Blasdell, N.Y., south of Buffalo. Dick and I enrolled in the same class at Lehigh. It was at a class reunion that Dick and I renewed our friendship. Reunions are important, as they enable attendees to renew acquaintances and meet classmates. That is how I met A. William “Bill” Reid. I still keep in touch with his wife, Harriet, and family. For your information, Dick was the sole attendee at our last reunion, held jointly with the Class of 1950. This, unfortunately, was the first reunion I have missed. I remember going to my father’s 10th reunion in 1935. That event was held in Taylor Stadium, with free food and activities. How times have changed. I’ve made contact with several classmates. Of course, if you want to provide informaClass Notes Welcome to Class Notes, where you can find out what your fellow alums are up to. Thanks to our dedicated correspondents for the work they do to keep our extended Lehigh community together. Please send class notes to your class correspondent, or, if unsure of the class to which the news applies, send to classnotes@lehigh.edu. Ryan Hydro ’95 ’98G ’06 Ph.D. co-wrote ‘Merry Christmas from the Keys,’ a song cut by country star Jon Pardi. Having received degrees in materials science, Hydro found he had a passion—and a knack—for songwriting. Read more in the Class of 1995 column.
