THOMAS SERGES Hometown: Chicago, IL College: P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science Major: Electrical Engineering Describe one of your proudest accomplishments. One of my proudest accomplishments at Lehigh so far is passing my Engineering 010 (Applied Engineering Computer Methods) class. I was severely struggling to understand what was going on in class and during the labs. There were no finals and only projects, and I was off to a rough start. I decided that I was sick of being behind and used all of my free time to study the subject. Week after week, I began to see my scores go up. By the time the final project came along, I knew the content and was ready to pass the class, which I did! Lehigh’s strategic plan, Inspiring the Future Makers, is built upon the notion that “The way forward is not yet defined. The future is ours for the making.” How do you intend to make your mark on campus and beyond? Being a student at Lehigh has really exposed me to the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). I want to make my mark here at Lehigh and beyond by implementing my knowledge together with the help of AI to build the future. I mainly would like to do this by continuing my planned studies in financial engineering by going forward with the financial engineering 4+1 track here at Lehigh. I would like to implement AI and in the future make the financial systems in the world more efficient, fair, and secure. A message from Thomas: Thank you very much. Scholarships and financial aid make a great difference in my life because they provide the financial support for my education that I would not otherwise be able to afford. With the education that I will be provided here at Lehigh, there will be no limits to what I can accomplish. This great education, which I am able to receive through financial support, will allow me to provide for myself and my family in the future. It will give me the ability to provide this support to a future student who will also be able to make a difference in the world. Fun Fact: I won gold at the state science fair two years in a row.
