2021 Stabler Donor Impact Report R4
ARTS AND SCIENCES Name: Madison Jewell Hometown: Bethlehem, PA Major: Biology Class: 2023 Favorite activity: Club Field Hockey Favorite faculty or staff: Professor Aliana Lungu, Chemistry Dream job: Radiologist Attending Lehigh has exposed me to so many people and ide- ologies. My classmates continue to amaze me with their abil- ities, and they encourage me to continue improving myself as well. My professors are genuinely excited about the topics they teach, and they make me want to learn as much as I can. Since attending Lehigh, I have realized just how many alumni and connections I have in my life. Knowing I have this support system inspires me to aim high with my goals. When I first applied to Le- high, I had to describe what the idea of a “Lehigh family” meant to me, and now I know it means a community of people that are willing to push and support you through any challenge you may face, not only during college, but well beyond that. My favorite class this past school year has been my organic chemistry lab with Professor Lungu. Despite having to completely rearrange her usual in-person lab to a Zoom call, I have learned so much from her. The engaging questions she asks and the passion she has for her course makes me want to take the time to go the extra mile in it. Her lab has even helped to make sense of topics that had already been covered in my previous organic chemistry lecture. I am very grateful for the ways in which she has encouraged us to remain passion- ate about our learning, and she has managed to teach us so much during this difficult time of online school. My parents are a huge part of my inspiration to excel at Lehigh. Getting to see their reactions when I tell them I finished with an A in a higher-level course, or letting them know I secured an executive position on my club field hockey team, makes all the hard work worth it. They have supported me in indescribable ways throughout my life, and the thought of one day doing the same for them inspires me to continue excelling at Lehigh. Giving back means acting in a selfless way to help others achieve their goals . One can give back in a multitude of ways: knowledge, donations, encouragement, etc. I believe even the smallest forms of “giving back” can leave a huge impact on a person. Everyone should take the time to ac- knowledge the things that made their dreams in life possible. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity you are providing me with this scholarship, and I would like you to know that I strive to excel in my courses. I am a first-generation college student, so the en- tire college process has been entirely new for my family and me. I would just like to let you know that this scholarship helps make it possible for me to attend Lehigh University and work to improve myself in many aspects of my life. Thank you.
