2021 Stabler Donor Impact Report R4

ARTS AND SCIENCES Name: Ajah Quawiy Hometown: Newark, DE Major: Earth & Environmental Science Class: 2023 Favorite activity: Eco Reps Leadership Program Favorite faculty or staff: Ricky Houck, Supervisor at Fairchild-Martindale Library Dream job: Environment and Resource Conservation I am very driven and goal oriented. I knew that I always wanted to study the environment, and I have spent years honing in on my experience and curriculum to help get into that career field. This summer, I even got an internship at a wildlife conservation reserve in my home state! By attending Lehigh, I am able to get support through my academic advisors and professors. I always know who to turn to when it comes to finding answers for career advice, study advice, and even advice in my personal life. Their support helps me go down the right path. My favorite professor is Katherine Glover. She teaches my class called conservation and biodiversity. From the first assigned reading, I knew that the class would be interesting and that I would enjoy learning this topic. I constantly reference the things I learned in internship or job interviews, as well as everyday conversations. I am the events coordinator for the Lehigh Eco Reps Leader- ship Program. I plan campus events and help oversee the residential hall buildings here at Lehigh. One event that I’m particularly proud of is our recent event, “Tie Dye Re-dye.” It was one of the few in-person events that my program held, and it was very exciting to engage with other students. The purpose of the event was to promote sustainable shopping habits by inviting students to reuse their old t-shirts and tie dye them with sustainably-sourced dye. I am also a volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley. I currently work with a little girl to help her with academics and other concerns she might have! To me, giving back means using the opportunities you’ve had to be able to give others the opportunities that they might not otherwise have. Whether this be academically, socially, or financially, I believe that everyone should get equal access to all opportunities. By giving back, I am able to uphold that belief. I excel at Lehigh because being here gives me access to a lot of great resources and opportunities that I otherwise would not have. I would hate to waste this opportunity by not putting my all into my studies and finding ways to give back. Thank you for your support.
